Taxes, Rates & Fees
Town Council sets the mill rate during its annual budget deliberations. Property owners pay property taxes based on the assessed value of their property, using a mill rate factor of 70%. To determine the tax you will pay, multiply the assessed value of your property by the mill rate, and then multiply the result by 70%.
Tax statements are sent to property owners in June, and taxes are due by December 31st of each year. A 5% discount is available to residents who pay their taxes by September 1st.
Taxes can be paid by cheque, debt or online. The Town encourages online tax payments. Call the Town Office at (306) 695-3344 for more information, or to set up a payment plan.
Water and Sewer Charges
For 2011 water consumption is billed at a minimum $24.03 monthly for the first 3,000 Imperial gallons, or less. The monthly charge for each 1,000 gallons or part thereof, from 3,001 to 6,000 Imperial gallons is $2.50. A new charge of $3.05 is applied to each 1,000 gallons or part thereof, above 6,001 gallons.
In 2012 the monthly charges will increase as follows:
Minimum 3,000 gallons or less: $24.03
Each 1,000 gallons from 3,001 to 6,000: $2.75
Each 1,000 gallons above 6,001: $3.35
For 2011 the flat rate for unmetered premises will be $24.03, rising to $24.75 in 2012. The monthly sewer rate will be $10.00 for both 2011 and 2012. Contact the Town Office for current information on water and sewer connections.
Water and sewer bills can be paid in cash, by cheque, debit card, or online. To pay online, you will need to have the account reference number located in the top left-hand corner of your utility bill. Call or visit the Town Office if you would like to arrange a payment plan for your utility bills.
Animal License Fees
Dogs over three months old must be licensed, at an annual cost of $10, or $30 for a lifetime license. Dogs and cats found running at large are held for three days, and if not claimed are put down by the veterinarian.
Dogs claimed by their owner within three days are charged $100, plus a license fee.
Building Permits and Demolition Permits
Applications for building and demolition permits are available online (below) or from the Town Office. Applications must be reviewed and approved before construction or demolition begins.
