Waste Disposal & Recycling
Basic garbage service includes weekly pick-up and landfill services for residents of Indian Head.

Residents of Indian Head also demonstrate their care for our environment with their ongoing participation in the Go Green Recycling initiative recently adopted by the Town and personal green practices such as composting that benefit us all through reductions in the amount and cost of waste management.

Basic Collection Information
Garbage is picked up West of Grand Avenue on Tuesdays and East of Grand Avenue on Wednesdays. Household refuse is picked up from front yards throughout the year. The Town bylaw states that all garbage must be placed in proper garbage cans with proper lids.
Setting out your garbage
Place your garbage by the street you normally use (unless you have received other instructions) on your assigned collection day, by 7:00 am. After your garbage has been collected, remove any cans or carts off the street and back to your property. Hazardous and other waste
Please note that some materials, like hazardous waste, are banned from the landfill, and should not be placed inside your garbage can or in any garbage bag that is set out. Town Landfill Access
The Town is on a landfill card system, $6 and $20 landfill cards are available from the Town Office, 421 Grand Avenue. The Town landfill is open to the public during the following hours, weather permitting, during the spring, summer and fall. Please make sure to tarp and tie all garbage, trees, leaves, etc. that you may be taking out to the landfill so as not to litter our countryside. The landfill is located 3 kilometers west of Indian Head on the grid road adjacent to the north entrance of Grand Avenue.

Tuesday 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Thursday 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Friday 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Winter hours for the landfill, effective November 1st, are:
Monday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Saturday 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The landfill is closed when the temperature is below -20 C.
Reusing & Recycling in Indian Head
The Indian Head Recycling Centre located at Otterloo Street provides 24-hour access for dropping off paper, cardboard and clothing.
High-grade, office, and glossy paper, newsprint and cardboard (corrugated and box-board) are accepted in the designated Blue Bin. Please flatten all cardboard and boxboard. Paper should be placed in the bin loose, with the exception of shredded paper, which should be bagged.
Go Green Recycling offers a fee-based curbside Green Box pick-up service in Indian Head. The service handles paper products, beverage containers, plastics, glass and metal. Containers must be washed.

Appliances

Cell Phones and Rechargeable Batteries
The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation accepts all types of cell phone and old rechargeable batteries for recycling. Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), Lithium Ion (Li-ion) and Small Sealed Lead (Pb).

Restrictions: The Corporation will not accept Sealed Lead (Pb) batteries weighing more than 2 lbs.

Beverage Containers
SARCAN Recycling collects and recycles all non-refillable, ready-to-serve beverage containers, excluding milk containers, for deposit refund. This includes metal, plastic, and glass packaging and juice boxes . For refund levels and tips on how to prepare your containers for recycling visit the Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council website.
SARCAN also accepts (at no charge) specific end-of-life electronics, such as:
• vehicle audio and video systems
• home audio playback/recording systems
• desktop printers and fax machines
• portable and desktop computers

• personal and portable playback/recording systems
• display devices (televisions and monitors)
• non-cellular telephones and answering machines
• computer peripherals

The Saskatchewan Institute on Community Living accepts clean clothing and small household items, properly bagged, at the Recycling Center on Otterloo Street

Composting / Yard Waste
The Town accepts leaves and grass clippings for composting at the Town Landfill. Please note that leaves and clippings must not be in bags, and that branches and kitchen scraps are not accepted for composting.

Engine Oil / Filters / Containers
The Saskatchewan Association for Resource Recovery Corporation accepts used oil and filters in limited amounts for recycling, at the Town Works Shop. For larger quantities call SARRC's toll-free number for pick-up service.

Household Hazardous Waste
Clean Farms Canada 1 accepts all sizes of pesticide containers for reuse or recycling. Please triple-rinse containers before dropping them off.
